Humanity used the resources and services of 1.51 planet Earths in 2007, up 2.5 times since 1961. This situation, known as “overshoot,” tells us that we are using up our planet faster than it can regenerate its resources. Global Footprint Network is addressing this challenge with the development and implementation of a measurement tool to track resource use in order to support the development of governance strategies to preserve the global ecosystem.
