In her latest book, This Changes Everything, Naomi Klein quotes a solar energy teacher who tells his students:
“There are times when you must accept small steps forward and there are other times when you need to run like a buffalo, now is the time to run.”
Run For Your life is a relay race across northern Europe that is the creation of a performance group with the partnership of numerous GSNs working in the area of climate and planet stewardship. A 4,000 kilometer run to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris, it will continue around the clock for about 21 days, from the Arctic to Paris. Thousands of runners, with thousands of stories will run as a call for climate justice and a sustainable future.
Mesmerizing to watch, the run will be streamed live around the clock:
The run started on November 9th at Kiruna—a 6,000 year old settlement at the northern frontier of Finland—with two indigenous Sami artists carrying a rock, a precious symbol in their culture. The rock will be passed from runner to runner all the way to Paris.
When the rock arrives in Paris the Run For Your Life race will merge with the Global Climate March. The Run For Your Life final stretch may signal the start of the Global Climate March, a demonstration expected to attract up to a half million participants.
“We are the last generation that can fight climate change. We have a duty to act.”
