One of the UN’s MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) of 2000 was to eradicate extreme poverty by 2015, yet one in six people are still surviving on a dollar a day. Or less.
Striking photos by the Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Renee C. Byer have been collected in a new book titled Living on a Dollar a Day: the Lives and Faces of the World’s Poor, which is slated for publication as the UN faces the renewal of it’s development goals. Collaborating with the organization The Forgotten International, which has also produced a documentary film by the same title, the hope is that bringing awareness of the issues of poverty to a wider audience through striking visuals, will help in the development of programs to alleviate poverty around the world.
